Bruce's Butte

Starting about 18 miles into the routes, this one mile segment begins just after riders turn east and the route turns into two track. Averaging 2.5% grade and finishing with pitches pushing over 12%, its best to lead in with fresh legs and a little speed. Push hard for the segment finish, then enjoy the rip downward as you descend 100 feet in less than 1/3rd of a mile.

Thunderhawk Flat

Once you're down Bruce's Butte you'll enjoy 3.9 flat and fast miles leading into the second GTC segment. Thunderhawk Flat is some of the best farm ground in the area, and this one mile sprint segment is your little piece of East River. Starting directly after a 90 degree turn you'll put the pedal to the metal and hold it for one mile flat out. You'll know the segment is over once you hit the... not so smooth gravel.

O'dell-Ay

Named in honor of the starting point, Mexican slang for "hurry up", and Beck's1996 landmark album, O'dell-Ay is the final GTC segment of the TWO. Starting two miles down Thunderhawk Road this 3.7 rolling descent is all about maximizing downhill speed to blast uphill and keep the good times rollin'. Ceremonial points awarded for shouting "ODELAY" as you approach the segment!

It's on! Starting just 1.7 miles into the first GTC event ride, this 3.3 mile climb on pavement averages just 1.8% grade. But, it's an early decision; hammer it for the GTC points or save a bit to win the race.

Get rugged! After a few miles of recovery, it's time to experience the grasslands. This 4.3 mile prairie crossing segment on Forest Service Road 202 includes mowed grass, cattle-trodden doubletrack (the herd may be there), and a creek crossing (that may be wet).

Final push! Just 0.75 miles long on county gravel road. It's a punch of a climb late in the route that reaches over 5% grade in spots. There are 2 brief plateaus in the climb to give you a few pedal strokes of relief on your way up.

The Grasslands Triple Crown is a joint effort by the event directors for the three independent series events. We love our prairies and are excited to share them with you! It's our first year trying this point series, so we're working things out as best we can as we go. Questions and suggestions are welcome using the contact form on the home page.
