The Grasslands Triple Crown

the South Dakota Grasslands Initiative
New in 2026!

Ready for the 2026 season? We learned a lot our first year, and we’re working on changes for the upcoming season! Our partnership with Lemmon, SD artist Ethan Thom was a big hit. This year, ALL 3-event finishers will receive a commemorative metal sculpture created by Ethan! We do have budget constraints though, so this year’s point series winners will receive a more traditional trophy award, but we promise they'll be uniquely suited to our rural western grasslands vibe! We also learned that a simplified point system would make for faster accurate point tracking across the series, especially at the final event. For 2026 we’ve eliminated the multi-event point multiplier. See the details on the rules page.

Three gravel cycling events in western South Dakota that ride through USFS National Grasslands include a unique competition. Riders can earn points on designated STRAVA segments to become the Grasslands Triple Crown winner!

Registration is now open for all three series events! Hit the links below to place a bet on yourself having a great time whether you're into race pace or party pace!

Each event includes 3 STRAVA segments for which riders can earn points. Rider points for the 9 segments will be totaled to win custom prizes for win, place, and show finishes in Grasslands Triple Crown race categories.

There’s no added cost to participate in the points series. To enter, simply upload your event ride(s) on STRAVA. Riders who complete all 3 events get a bonus commemorative item!

Grasslands Triple Crown

The Grasslands Triple Crown is a joint effort by the event directors for the three independent series events. We love our prairies and are excited to share them with you!
